Law and Order Actors Who Played Multiple Roles

Theroux first appears in season 1 of “The Monogamists” as Jared, an arrogant and annoying New Yorker who was recently named one of the “coolest people under 30” in town. Needless to say, Mr. Cool Guy Jared immediately puts himself in the shoes of Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker). Theroux later reappeared as Vaughn Wysel, one of Carrie`s friends in the second season of “Failures”, although their relationship soon encountered a major obstacle. Years later, when asked about this quick turnaround, Theroux noticed that, like Law & Order, Sex and the City was a popular booking for New York actors, and when producers asked him to return — with a different haircut — he immediately agreed, giving her two chances to visit Carrie`s sexy, soapy world. Whatever the reason, many Law & Order stars have done double, triple, quadruple, or even quintuple on NBC`s original series and its spin-offs, as you`ll see below. Peter Scanavino, for example, played five characters in series in the franchise, while Camryn Manheim only played four characters in the original Law & Order variant. Doyle played forensic pathologist Ryan O`Halloran from 2003 to 2009, but in 2002 he was M.E. Karlan`s assistant in the episode “Prodigy.” Have you ever noticed that some of the faces in the Law & Order franchise look familiar to you? That`s because they`re not newcomers to the captivating crime series. Many of the show`s actors first debuted in guest roles for one or two episodes. They seemed to have impressed Dick Wolf. In the 1999 episode “Sophmore Jinx,” he played a security guard on campus, but from 2000 to 2006 he was Judge Mark Seligman.

Maintaining perfectly consistent continuity across a series with so much story would be a nightmarish task, and so the franchise largely toyed with the idea of reusing actors for different guest characters on different shows. Most examples of this process boil down to an actor appearing two or three times as a couple of supporting characters in shows, with a few years between each performance, to get rid of any potential confusion in the audience. With all the actors unemployed in New York, you`d think it would be easier for the Law & Order franchise not to cast the same actors in multiple roles. (Or maybe the L&O world just has a greater preponderance of twins? Or some kind of government cloning program?) He played the role of a teleprompter named Seymour “Kingston” Stockton. The film is set three years after Detective Logan left the series in 1995. Ice-T then reprised his role as Tutuola from 2000 and went from established rapper to actor. At the beginning of the series, Bluth patriarch George Bluth (played by Jeffrey Tambor) is arrested for fraudulent real estate transactions and ends up in jail for the rest of the series. In a clever twist, the show`s creative team found a way to keep Tambor on screen more often. According to Tambor himself, he was fitted with a wig meant for a flashback sequence when showrunner Mitch Hurwitz had a new idea and Oscar Bluth, George`s twin brother, was born. Oscar began his run on Arrested Development in the second season, dropping frequent clues that he, and not George, was the father of Buster Bluth (Tony Hale). Before becoming ADA Casey Novak, Diane Neal appeared in the 2001 episode “Riddiculous”, in which several women were accused of raping a stripper.

She may not have been ADA at the time (and they also don`t mention she was on the show before), but her character played a lawyer. Fans of Doctor Who, which has aired in various iterations on the BBC since 1963, all have their favourite doctor among the thirteen actors who have played the immortal alien Gallifreyan who travels back in time. As the main inhabitant of the TARDIS, a phone booth that can jump through space and time, the Doctor`s transformation is always explained by his regenesis into a new human body. In addition, the Doctor always has a true human companion to accompany him on his epic journey. You know him as former A.D.A. Rafael Barba of SVU, but Esparza also played ADA killer Kevin Mulrooney in the 2009 episode “Lady`s Man” of Law & Order: Criminal Intent and accused blackmailer Dennis Di Palma in the Law & Order episode “Blackmail.” Diane Neal starred in the crime spin-off Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (first as a regular and later in recurring and guest appearances) as Casey Novak – a deputy district attorney, who also appeared in an episode of the short-lived Law & Order: Trial By Jury. The actress actually played two characters in this universe – the first is a stockbroker convicted of raping and murdering a stripper who staged the murder of his accomplice as suicide, in the third season of SVU. Few actors can play both a good guy and a bad guy in the same show, but in Outlander, veteran British actor Tobias Menzies can do a really intense double job. The popular Starz series — based on Diana Gabaldon`s bestselling book series of the same name — tells the story of Claire Randall (Caitrona Balfe), a nurse who travels through World War II to colonial Scotland, where she falls in love with Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a Highland warrior who sweeps her with his feet. Besides the fact that the two literally come from different worlds, there`s another problem: Claire`s husband, Frank, is still waiting for her return in his timeline. Giddish, who will end her lengthy appearance as Amanda Rollins in CSR this season, has previously been seen on the same show as rape victim Kara Bawson in the 2007 episode “Outsider.” Later that year, she played murder suspect Dana Stipe in the criminal intent episode “Depths.” Another example is actress S. Epatha Merkerson.

She first played the role of a mother whose son was shot, but returned to the series a few years later to play the character of Van Buren. When Judy tries to leave Steve behind once and for all and move on with her life, she is pursued by her ex-fiancé, which comes to a head when Steve confronts Jen late at night at her house. Cornered, Jen shoots and kills Steve, which becomes even more complicated when Steve`s twin brother, Ben (who is also played by Marsden, of course) shows up and searches for his missing brother. After Marsden was killed during the first season, he apparently contacted creator and showrunner Liz Feldman and asked if Steve could survive his head injury. That didn`t happen, but she and her casting directors still found an incredibly clever way to involve Marsden. “SVU” also saw its fair share of actors return. None other than Diane Neal, who plays Assistant District Attorney Casey Novak, began her time in the series as a small character for a few years before finally joining the cast (via The Blast). Her initial role was also that of a lawyer, but she was accused of a crime! In an astonishing performance spanning five seasons, Maslany mastered multiple accents and created completely different characters, tics, and mannerisms for over a dozen clones, making each character feel extraordinarily lived and real.

She even manages to play a clone who pretends to be someone else several times – and sells it! It is a performance for eternity that must be seen to believe. For years, critics crowned Maslany the most capable and exciting actress on television, and finally the Academy listened; Maslany was awarded an Emmy Award in 2016 for her considerable – and probably exhausting – efforts. Manheim appeared in Law & Order for three decades before appearing regularly on the series as Lt. Kate Dixon. The actress played Leila in the 1991 episode “Life Choice”, Martha Rollins in “Benevolence” (1993) and Beatrice Hines in “Nurture” (1993). It`s clear that those who work on the many series in the franchise love their work. So much so that it is not uncommon for some actors to play several different characters in the series. No police station is complete without a coroner. That title went to Melinda Warner, played by actress Tamara Tunie. His characters were a regular on the show for many seasons, but became a lead role from seasons 7 to 12. Tunie will appear on screen as Warner for 171 episodes. Before becoming a tough A.D.A.

in the courtroom, she had already made an appearance on the show.
